I woke up this morning – a little older. Today is my 40th birthday. I recall feeling so stressed at the thought of turning 30 that for weeks I thought turning 40 would be the beginning of feeling and being….you guessed it….OLD!
I couldn’t have been more wrong!
I feel younger, happier, and more energetic in this moment than I have in a very long time. I hope that what I feel in this moment lasts each day of the rest of the time I am blessed to be here on this earth.
You see, a lesson is starting to sink in here. Age truly is just a number. You are what and how you feel. Attitude truly does determine your altitude.
As I sit here and think about the experiences I have had this very day, I feel many things:
but most importantly, LOVED.
I spent this day, surrounded by people that I love dearly and that I would do anything for….and they came out to show me that they love me too. Sometimes, I think that in the day to day adventure we call life, we know that there are many that are important to us, but we tend to forget that this is a two way street. Our lives leave imprints on others too!
I was truly humbled to read so many messages from people that I just really didn’t stop to think that I had an impact on…seeing a former student and having her tell me that I am the reason that she has continued learning about computers as I was checking out at Walmart today, reading posts on Facebook from friends (one in particular that made me cry) about things that I really thought were little and insignificant, and so many HUGS. I don’t share this as a “go me” moment, but rather as a cautionary tale. Take NOTHING for granted, value the moments that you have each day and make sure you do something to make someone’s life a little better because your lives touched, have some fun each day (it’s way too boring if you don’t),
AND TAKE TIME TO CELEBRATE!!!!
Celebrate the people in your lives that you love and that love you back!
Don’t rush through life making everything about what’s on your to do list always and only focusing on getting all the tasks done. This is one of my biggest faults and life is so much more than that.
Don’t become so focused on the number associated with your age that you allow the inner child to disappear…
“There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.”
So this is me, taking some time to muse a little about some lessons I learned today about age, friendship, and celebrating life. Thank you for taking some of your time to read it. And if you were one of those people that took time out of your day to come and leave an imprint on mine, I thank you.
Thank you for being a part of my life and giving me an opportunity to be a part of yours.
Thank you for entrusting your children to me (even for just a little while).
Thank you for showing me the importance of taking some time for fun and to celebrate every once in a while.
Mere words truly cannot express how grateful I am to be here, with you, and for you.
